The overall aim of the home is to meet the individual needs of every resident. To achieve this, we use a person-centred approach to care in which each person has a named carer & is offered high levels of support on an individual basis. Activities are an important part of life at Hollybush House & our Activity Therapists & care staff organise a wide range of things to do both inside & outside the home.
Located at Queens Cross Network, Dudley, the hub offers information, advice and a range of support to anyone caring for a family member or friend. "Through using this service, we demonstrate to our unpaid carers how RITA operates and how it can enrich the lives of the people who they are caring for in the comfort of their own home.”
RITA has already contributed to a reduction in safeguarding incidents, increases in nutrition and hydration rates and enhanced the quality of life and wellbeing of residents and staff.
One individual would continually walk with purpose for very long periods of time (4 to 5 hours) The individual would then become very tired and unsteady and at risk of falling. The fish tank activity on RITA not only proves to calm his manner and encourage him to sit and rest, it also assists with his mental stimulation.
“There was one lady who was very distressed for an awful amount of the time. She was Punjabi speaking & there was a very difficult language barrier between herself & the staff which seemingly would increase the lady’s distress & anxiety. Using RITA we found a Punjabi movie & the shift in the resident’s mood was drastic.”
The impact of RITA has been shared with management teams, the falls steering groups, the integrated commissioning executive & the dementia steering group. They have received feedback from a range of professionals & other residential/care homes wanting to extend the use of RITA across the system.
