Project to help care home residents living with dementia nets national award
The hospital experience of patients recovering from Covid-19 has been improved thanks to charity funding.
We have recently received some amazing feedback from our Palliative Care colleagues in North Tyneside who have been maximising their use of RITA at the North Tyneside Day Hospice. Quizzes, games, photos, video clips, music, sensory, painting and even the 'my life passport' features have all been used to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life of patients. An unexpected outcome has been that patients have enjoyed using the technology and that it has not been as “frightening” as they had imagined. Many patients have been encouraged to explore technology for themselves.
“It is great to see the flexibility of the Rita system being used to support the residents of North Tyneside across the different care settings”
Ruth Marshall - Clinical Quality Lead Nurse NHS North Tyneside CCG
Thanks to additional investment from Dudley Metropolitan Council, care homes in Dudley are finding innovative ways to allow their residents to contact home using our larger RITA devices. Skype stations have been set up at New Bradley Hall in Kingswinford using our large 24" RITA devices, allowing residents to feel closer to their loved ones. The stories below sum up what a difference this has made!

Withybush General Hospital, based in Haverfordwest, provides acute care across Pembrokeshire to a population with high numbers of older people. Hospital admissions have been rising steadily for over a decade and there are often delays in discharging older patients, leading to outliers on medical and surgical wards. This has an adverse effect on patient care and leads to increased length of stay and increased morbidity and mortality.
Withybush joined the Acute Frailty Network in May 2018 (The first Welsh HB to do so) Since then the team has pioneered an ambitious frailty improvement project.
