The Divine Care Centre in Wingate has had some pews donated from their local church which they have used to make a prayer room for their residents.
They are also using RITA (Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activities’) which is an all-in-one touch screen based system which offers digital reminiscence therapy through the use of user- friendly interactive screens and tablets to blend entertainment with therapy. This assists residents (particularly with memory impairments) in recalling and sharing events from their past through listening to music, watching news reports of significant historical events, and for the prayer room with the music and words for hymns.
Home Manager Achu says: “Our prayer room has been enjoyed and welcomed many of our Residents. We were extremely grateful to the Holy Trinity Church, Wingate for thinking of us and donating 2 church pews to furnish our room. RITA is a welcome addition as it provides music for our Residents to sing along to.”
Activities Co-ordinator Karen: “I really enjoy taking the residents to the prayer room as I can see the enjoyment on their faces when singing hymns.”
Here’s what some of the residents told us about the prayer room:
"Mary enjoys going to the prayer room to sit and reflect as well as joining others."
"Cecelia thinks the prayer room is beautiful and a relaxing place to be."
"Sheila - likes singing hymns with other Residents and the room feels warm and comforting."
